Why are baby teeth so important?

Baby teeth are space holders for the permanent teeth. They function like a map for the permanent teeth to follow. If a baby tooth gets tooth decay "sugar-bugs", it can be very painful and impact a child’s ability to eat, sleep, learn, and speak.

When should I take my child to the dentist for their first visit?

To prevent dental problems, it is recommended a child see a dentist when their first tooth appears or no later than their first birthday. (Perfect timing for the Fairy Messengers to arrive!)

How do I prepare my child to go to the dentist for the first time?

Answer all your child’s questions in a positive way. Read together Willow By Your Pillow, The True Story of the Tooth Fairy and Her Fairy Messengers. This will help them understand the importance of keeping their teeth healthy and sugar-bug free!  Additionally, bring your Fairy Messenger along for the dental visit. Fairy Messengers LOVE going to the dentist and LOVE being cuddled!

What healthy foods and snacks should I give to my child?

Choose foods that are low in sugar and high in nutrients such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, meat, and cheese; avoid sticky and sugary foods that like to stay in the grooves of your teeth!

What drinks are better for my child?

Water is the best drink to keep your teeth healthy! Water keeps your mouth hydrated and helps wash away food particles while neutralizing acids in your mouth. Water with fluoride, a natural mineral, also helps prevent cavities.

What is a cavity?

A cavity is a hole in a tooth formed from a combination of bacteria, acid, and food. When combined, sugar-bugs can break down the hard outer layer of a tooth called enamel leaving a cavity. Cavities can progress with poor oral hygiene and consumption of sugary and acidic foods.

How can I help prevent cavities in my kids?

Be sure to take them to the dentist for cleanings; in addition, regular check-ups (twice a year) are recommended. Help your children in making healthy food and drink choices; help them also in brushing and flossing their teeth each day to ensure no sugar-bugs are left behind. Moreover, incorporate the Fairy Messengers in your children’s lives! The Fairy Messengers report to the Tooth Fairy with their magic EVERY NIGHT!
